Julian Edelman first Patriots WR to earn weekly award since Randy Moss

FOXBOROUGH. Mass. -- Julian Edelman was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, becoming the New England Patriots' first wide receiver to earn the honor since Randy Moss in 2007.

Edelman was recognized after totaling eight catches for a career-high 151 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 35-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins that helped the Patriots clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. His performance included a 77-yard catch-and-run score aided by a crushing downfield block from fellow wide receiver Michael Floyd.

Edelman has recorded 11 games of 100 or more receiving yards in his eight-year NFL career, all spent with the Patriots. He finished the 2016 season with a career-high 1,106 receiving yards, and joins Wes Welker (5), Rob Gronkowski (3), Moss (3), Stanley Morgan (3) and Terry Glenn (2) as the only Patriots players with at least two 1,000-yard seasons. Edelman he had 1,056 yards in 2013.

Edelman's honor marks the ninth time this season that a Patriots player has earned an NFL award.
