Every Saturday in the offseason, one question from Twitter will be selected and expounded upon based on a hot topic surrounding the New England Patriots:
@MikeReiss Re: Saturday question: Belichick had 10 rings in photo at ring cerimony. 5 with NE 2 with NYG. Where are the other 3 from?
— Rita Peinado (@Rcplw) June 13, 2017
Rita, the photo from the Patriots' official website and Instagram account of coach Bill Belichick wearing all his rings at the team's June 9 private ring ceremony, was blinding. That's a lot of bling.
Others had a similar question to yours: Since he has seven Super Bowl championships -- five as a head coach in New England, and two as a coordinator with the New York Giants -- what were the other three rings? The additional three were conference-championship rings from his time as a Patriots assistant (1996) and head coach (2007, 2011).
As we know from the name of Belichick's boat, the recently renamed VII Rings, the Super Bowl hardware is what truly counts to him on the scoreboard.
If Belichick is to win an eighth ring this season, and become just the second head coach in history to record back-to-back Super Bowl triumphs two different times, it would add another layer to his already impressive résumé. The venerable Rick Gosselin of the "Talk of Fame Network" wrote a piece on the topic this week.
