Saints morning links: Brees, Ryan, more

I haven’t been doing daily New Orleans Saints links packages since the pace is a little slower this time of year. So here’s a week’s worth of highlights for you to catch up on:

I confirmed that Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany are expecting their fourth child later this year -- as was first reported by E! Online from a red-carpet Super Bowl event. Drew and Brittany have three sons: Baylen, 5, Bowen, 3, and Callen, 1.

Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will enhance his role as a “man of the people” in New Orleans by serving as grand marshal for the Krewe of Argus in their Mardi Gras parade this year. Saints defensive end Will Smith and former running back Deuce McAllister will also serve as celebrity knights in the Knights of Nemesis parade.

The Advocate’s Ramon Antonio Vargas wrote a compelling piece about how Saints receiver Joe Morgan said he matured during a 2013 season that was tough (a season-ending injury and DUI arrest) -- but nothing compared to the tragedy his family suffered early in his life.

The Detroit Lions claimed former Saints safety Isa Abdul-Quddus off waivers.

The Times-Picayune put together a cool collection of photos from the entire 2013 season.

Former Saints receivers coach Curtis Johnson continued his run of success as Tulane’s football coach with a strong recruiting class. WWLTV.com’s Bradley Handwerger got a behind-the-scenes look at Tulane’s signing day.

The NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans -- who are also owned by Saints owner Tom Benson – worked out a naming rights deal for the New Orleans Arena with the locally owned Smoothie King franchise, just in time to host the NBA All-Star Game.

Last but not least, I wrapped up my series ranking the Saints’ top offseason needs 1-through-12. If you missed any part of it, you can look back here:
