The New Orleans Saints officially confirmed they have agreed to deals with 17 undrafted rookies -- a group that is headlined by Rutgers receiver Brandon Coleman. Here's the team's release, including bios on each player.
Coleman (6-foot-6, 225 pounds) is an intriguing prospect who is physically reminiscent of Saints weapons like Marques Colston and Jimmy Graham. Scouts Inc. rated him as the 89th overall prospect heading into this year's draft class and singled him out as the best undrafted player.
A knee injury in 2013 (torn meniscus) may have contributed to Coleman's fallen draft stock. He went from 43 catches, 718 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2012 to 34-538-4 last year.
Some other intriguing names on the Saints' list: Middle Tennessee State quarterback Logan Kilgore, Sam Houston State running back Tim Flanders (the next great running back find for the Saints?) and Grand Valley State center Matthew Armstrong (back-to-back years unearthing linemen from that school following Tim Lelito in 2012).
Neither West Texas A&M kicker Sergio Castillo nor New Mexico State linebacker TraShaun Nixon are on the official list. It's possible they were only invited on a tryout basis, or it's possible that plans have changed.
