Locker Room Buzz: New York Giants

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Observed in the locker room following the New York Giants' 38-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

O-line owns it: The members of the Giants' offensive line took responsibility for their role in a game that saw quarterback Eli Manning sacked seven times, including six in the first 17 minutes. Left tackle Will Beatty, who had the worst game of his career, admitted that he let the first sack he allowed stay with him too long and that the problems "snowballed" from there.

Shut out: Hakeem Nicks wore a beautiful Carolina blue sportcoat for his return to the state where he grew up and played his college ball. But he caught no passes and was only targeted once -- late in the fourth quarter with the game long decided. He did not seem as upset about his own stats as he did about the loss. "That's the game," Nicks said. "You've got to control what you can control. I can't throw it to myself."

Uncharted territory: Giants coach Tom Coughlin appeared stunned by the loss and his first 0-3 record as Giants coach. "'Disappointing' is not a strong enough word," he said. Defensive end Justin Tuck said, "We are a desperate football team right now."
