Santonio Holmes keeps it short and bolts

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Santonio Holmes seemed upset with his lack of involvement in the New York Jets' offense.

The veteran wide receiver, who caught only two passes in the 24-13 victory against the Cleveland Browns, offered a series of terse responses to questions. His interview in its entirety:

Q: What about the improved offense?

Holmes: "We got the job done. We caught the ball today. We made plays."

Q: Was Geno Smith more confident than usual?

Holmes: "We played great as a team. We executed, and we got the job done today."

Q: What did you think of Geno's performance?

Holmes: "We got the job done. We just played good as a team. We executed, and came out with a great team victory."

Q: Rex Ryan reportedly told the team Saturday night his job is in danger. Is that accurate?

Holmes: "No comment."

With that, he walked off. For Holmes, who likely will be released in the offseason, it was probably his final home game.

Nice call, rook: On Smith's second touchdown pass to David Nelson, a 6-yard throw on a back-shoulder route, the rookie quarterback made a check at the line of scrimmage. There was a run-pass option, and he checked at the line to a pass -- a pass they hadn't thrown before.

"We had been practicing that for a few weeks," Nelson said. "It takes a lot of timing, and it's great to see Marty [Mornhinweg] showing the trust in Geno to make the call."

Home sweet home: The Jets finished with a 6-2 mark at home, tied for the third-most home wins in team history. The Jets are 24-16 under Ryan at home.

Big day for offense: The Jets gained 422 total yards, their second 400-yard day. It was a terrific day for the offensive line, which allowed no sacks. The Jets ran for 208 yards, their third straight 100-yard performance against a top-10 run defense.

Money on third down: The Jets were 12-for-18 on third downs (67 percent), their highest since Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills. WR Jeremy Kerley caught four of his five passes on third down for three conversions. The result: Three drives of 13 or more plays.
