Mo's goals include Pro Bowl, Hall of Fame

FLORHAM PARK, NJ -- Muhammad Wilkerson will learn tonight whether he has been named to his first Pro Bowl team. Wilkerson has 10.5 sacks in his third season with the Jets, and says that’s been one of his goals all along.

“I play this game not just for the financial success,” Wilkerson said. “I play this for my family [and] myself, I love this game. I love playing with my teammates but also I definitely want to make Pro Bowls and Super Bowls and eventually, hopefully maybe make the Hall of Fame. I play this game, I try to achieve those goals.”

In the past few weeks, his coaches and teammates have promoted his candidacy like a major film studio before the Oscars. His position on the line is one where stats don’t always tell the full story, but the players who study their opponents on tape know who are their greatest challenges on Sunday.

“It’d mean a lot but it would show that my peers in this league think I’m a good enough player,” Wilkerson said. “But also my teammates here think I’m playing at an elite level to make it and that’s a statement right there.”

Wilkerson and his defensive teammates, like Damon Harrison, Sheldon Richardson and Quinton Coples, have been a consistent bright spot for the Jets during a wildly inconsistent season.

“I know since I’ve been here we haven’t been able to get postseason success,” Wilkerson said, "but I think it’s going to come pretty soon.”
