We are looking at the Jets and Giants and what they will be looking for when the first day of the 2010 NFL Draft finally arrives on Thursday. I am looking at the pass rush situation, and here is some information on prospect Everson Griffen.
I went on ESPN Radio 1050 AM with Jets fan Jody McDonald this morning, and he's big on picking up a safety. I'll take a look at that need starting tomorrow. He also asked if the Jets might trade out of the first round. Although it will make it difficult for any Jets writer who needs to write a story on deadline that night -- with no pick to report it'd be like writing about a scoreless tie in soccer -- it's a realistic possibility.
Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said he didn't want to trade up, and I don't think he would want to spend first-round money on a player that hasn't been absolutely targeted by the scouts. Assuming the NFL and NFL Players Association institute a new collective bargaining agreement for next year (a big if, but in the next few days and weeks we can get into this issue) then Tannenbaum will have to resign or release Darrelle Revis, Nick Mangold, Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Antonio Cromartie, etc., and he'll need cap space.
That said, I would never bet against Tannenbaum trading his 2nd, 4th 6th and 7th picks to get someone like S Eric Berry if he's set on getting him. That would be an interesting story -- two draft years, five players.
