Fighting at home can go one of two ways. A fighter can get extra jazzed to do their thing in front of friends and family. The surge in pride can lift them to higher highs. Or, the experience can be a drag.
During fight week, more people are after them for tickets. Perhaps they try to do too much on fight night, get outside of their comfort zone and fight differently.
Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin splits his time between New York and LA. He was a full-time New Yorker before he headed west a couple years ago to soak up the California boxing culture and fruitful sparring.
Quillin, 29, told NYFightBlog that he will be dialed in Saturday. Quillin (27-0, 20 KOs), who is coming off his career-best win against Winky Wright in June, will fight in front of his passionate fans at the Barclays Center. Everyone will see if he sticks to what got him to this point against WBO middleweight champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (27-0, 17 KOs).
