Trainer-father Garcia goes off at presser

The trainer/father of headliner Danny Garcia went off somewhat at the final press conference ahead of Saturday's boxing debut at the Barclays Center. Angel Garcia, whose son holds the WBC and WBA 140-pound titles, talked trash in the direction of foe Erik Morales, who lost to the Philly-based Garcia back in March via unanimous decision.

Pops Garcia, at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott press gathering, was brought to the podium by promoter Oscar De La Hoya. He started off mellow, by thanking God, and then got cooking. He said Morales was incorrect in stating that the first fight was close. He then aimed at Morales' father, Jose Morales, who trains the future Hall of Famer. "As his father, you're not taking good care of your son," Angel said. "I'll be honest to God with you." He then started dropping F-bombs, and some in the room, from Team Morales, hooted at him. He kept ranting in Spanish, and cooler heads tried to get Danny to the mike. Angel kept on blasting before ceding the floor.

De La Hoya joked that he could set up a fight for Angel, and then introed Danny, the 24-0 hitter who is coming off a semi-shocker TKO4 win over Amir Khan. The son is used to his dad's fiery demeanor, and in mellow fashion, stated he had a solid camp. "I'm keeping the belts on the East Coast and I'll see you all Saturday," he said.

The 36-year-old Morales, before the flareup, told the assembled that he wasn't fighting for money. "I can guarantee you that I'm going to impress you all," he said.
