Rigo to maybe fight in September

Guillermo Rigondeux impressed the heck out of boxing fans who saw him do his ultra-clever pugilism against, the 2012 Boxing Writers Association Fighter of the Year, Nonito Donaire at Radio City Music Hall on April 13.

Yes, there was some grumbling from those who like more trading. They believe that the Cuban-born 32-year-old Floridian would be more fan-friendly if he spent less time and energy on defense and more in attack mode. But the super bantam champ Rigo (12-0 with 8 KOs), managed by Irishman Gary Hyde, is a legit top ten pound for pounder. Those who appreciate his sweetly scientific brand of boxing want to see him in action again. So, I posed the question to Hyde -- when will Rigo fight next, and against who?

"I am hoping we get a fight in September but it's not going to be easy to find the right opponent," Hyde said. "I like Carl Frampton but HBO doesn't." Frampton is a 26 year-old Irishman with a 16-0 record.

"Maybe Victor Terrazas," Hyde added. Terrazas is a 30-year-old Mexican with a 37-2-1 record. He's on a ten-fight winning streak.
