Long Island's Sean Monaghan was getting warmed up, lubing up the joints and tendons, when foe Matt Vanda's left bicep curled up. He grimaced and walked to his corner; the ref checked it out, saw the swelling and pulled the plug on the light-heavyweight tussle in Round 1 at the Madison Square Garden Theater on Saturday night.
The Long Beach-based boxer went to 20-0 with the stoppage, and Vanda, out of Minnesota, dropped to 45-16.
Monaghan, who knows and employs only one gear -- forward, furiously -- was backing up Vanda when the left bicep rebelled.
The time of the ending for this attraction, which deflated a goodly portion of the customers who were there to see their Seanie, was 2:51 elapsed.
