NEW YORK -- Mason Plumlee says he liked watching the Brooklyn Nets play last season because “you like watching teams with superstars.”

Well, Mason, this season you’ll get a chance to play with Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez -- and now Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, too.

The Nets selected the 6-10 power forward out of Duke with the 22nd selection in the first round of the 2013 NBA draft on Thursday night.

“I didn’t work out for [the Nets] during the pre-draft process, but I mean, who wouldn’t wanna play here with the buzz they have going here?” Plumlee, 23, said. “It’s a dream come true to be in a situation like this.”

Plumlee said he figured he’d go somewhere between No 10. and No. 20, “but I’m just as happy to be here [at 22] than I would’ve been at any of those places.”

Plumlee met coach Jason Kidd and Williams after being selected. “They just welcomed me and I’m just excited about being around those guys,” Plumlee said.

Plumlee had never been to Brooklyn before arriving there Wednesday. “This is an unbelievable arena,” Plumlee said of the Barclays Center. “I can’t imagine anything being nicer than this.”

Plumlee’s brother, Miles, who plays for the Indiana Pacers, was sitting next to him when he heard his name called. “He just said congrats and enjoy it,” Plumlee said.

Plumlee talked about what kind of player he is. “I’m athletic, I get up and down, I rebound well, I’m agile and I’m good on my feet,” Plumlee said. “So I think all those things will show up at the next level.”
