“I think Jason forgot last year,” Garnett cracked. “He got amnesia.”

Garnett admitted during the Nets' media day on Monday that he needs to be more receptive to Kidd’s plan of keeping him fresh. But he believes the more he can play, the quicker Brooklyn's chemistry will improve.

Both say the plan for how much the power forward plays this season –- especially in back-to-back games –- is a work in progress. Kidd said he experienced some push-back from Garnett on the topic when they first talked about it.

“He’s been great,” Kidd said. “For me and him, he respects me and I respect him. I just sat in that seat. For me to get him to the finish line is my goal.”

Kidd said he spent the last eight seasons of his career trying to stay healthy for the postseason.

“Hopefully I got it down, not to a science, but hopefully I understand what it means to get KG out of some drills,” Kidd said. “He is a competitor. He doesn’t want to come out.

“So I have sat there before. Just to get him out and understand that missing a rep or two [in practice] doesn’t mean that you are retired. It just means that I need to get these younger guys in to see what they can do.”
