The Brooklyn Nets' starting five will make a combined $81.5 million this season -- more than the entire roster of 26 of the other 29 NBA teams, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
The salaries of their starters, per HoopsHype.com:
Joe Johnson: $21.5 million
Deron Williams: $18.5 million
Paul Pierce: $15.3 million
Brook Lopez: $14.7 million
Kevin Garnett: $11.5 million
The only teams with a higher payroll than the Nets’ starting five? Miami ($85.9 million), Chicago ($83.3 million) and the Lakers ($83.1 million).
Based on these numbers, Brooklyn’s projected luxury tax bill of $87 million -- on an estimated $102 million payroll -- is higher than every other team’s payroll in the league.
