Pregame notes: Nets vs. Nuggets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets point guard C.J. Watson will start Wednesday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets, interim coach P.J. Carlesimo said.

Watson went 0-for-7 on Monday night starting in place of the injured Deron Williams. In his last 29 games, he’s averaging 4.8 points and 1.4 assists on 35.2 percent shooting.

“I thought his shots have been for the most part good looks,” Carlesimo said, adding that he wants Watson to keep shooting.

Williams will miss his second straight game due to inflammation in both ankles. He is expected to return to practice Monday following the All-Star break.

• Wednesday night’s game is going to be a battle of pace. The Nets rank last in pace (90.5), while the Nuggets (97.6) rank second only behind the Rockets (98.7) in that category. Brooklyn struggles against teams that like to go up-and-down.

“We would like it to be more half court offense and half court defense,” Carlesimo said. “They would like it to be more full court offense and full court defense.”

• The Nets (30-22, 18-10 home) have lost eight of their last 10 meetings against the Nuggets (33-20). Brooklyn is averaging just 86.1 points in its last seven games, which isn’t going to be good enough against the Denver, which averages 105.0 points on the season.
