The deal is "not happening," a league source said Thursday morning, in the hours leading up to the 3 p.m. trade deadline.
The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the Nets "don't want Gordon, period."
Earlier Wednesday, league sources told ESPNNewYork.com there wasn't much to the Paul Pierce-to-the-Nets rumors and added that a trade was unlikely.
The Nets have been linked to Gordon, Smith, Ilyasova and Paul Millsap. Nets GM Billy King, however, said Tuesday there's just a 10 percent chance his team makes a trade.
Smith is Brooklyn's top trade target, sources recently told ESPN's Chris Broussard, but it is unknown if the Nets have enough assets to land him. Smith, 27, is in the final year of his contract, and would provide a significant upgrade at power forward were the Nets to acquire him.
