The Saturday morning hoops roundup

In the only local college hoops game on Friday night, Wagner fell to Princeton at home, 69-57. Kareem Maddox had 23 for Princeton. Naofall Folahan led Wagner with 19 points. Wagner had now lost three in a row, and is 4-6 under first-year coach Dan Hurley.

Saturday's slate features some very interesting local games, headlined by Iona -- winner of seven straight -- playing undefeated Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. I profiled Iona's Mike Glover (a.k.a. Optimus Prime) earlier this week -- here's a link to the story. The game is at 7 p.m., and will air locally on SNY.

Also on Saturday, Hofstra's Charles Jenkins will attempt to go over 2,000 points for his career (he's five points away from 2K) when Hofstra travels to play Manhattan. I also profiled Jenkins -- the best college player in the metro area -- earlier this week. Here's a link to that story.

And Rutgers is in action on Saturday as well -- the Scarlet Knights are on the road, playing Monmouth. Rutgers is 7-2, and has won four straight -- but coach Mike Rice can still be very ticked off even after his team wins, as I discovered earlier this week.
