The Sunday morning hoops roundup

Saturday was a very busy day in local college hoops, as the regular season wound down and conference tournaments heated up:

  • St. John's wrapped up its regular season by beating South Florida on Senior Night at Carnesecca Arena, 72-56. Here are links to my story, and the recap.

  • Seton Hall finished the regular season on a high note, beating Marquette at home, 85-72. Jeremy Hazell scored 21 points in his final home game.

  • Rutgers lost a heartbreaker at Providence, 75-74. Gilvydas Biruta had 21 points for the Scarlet Knights.

  • Hofstra advanced to the CAA semifinals, defeating William & Mary, 72-56. Charles Jenkins had 20 points for the Pride.

  • Iona advanced to the MAAC semifinals, trouncing Siena, 94-64. Mike Glover had 31 points and 11 rebounds for the Gaels.

  • St. Peter's also advanced to the MAAC semis, beating Loyola (MD), 70-60. Jeron Belin had 17 points off the bench for the Peacocks.

  • Stony Brook is in the America East semis, after defeating Albany, 67-61. Chris Martin had 18 points for the Seawolves.

  • Fordham snapped its 41-game losing streak in the Atlantic 10, winning at home over UMass, 77-73. Brenton Butler had 29 points for the Rams.

  • NJIT won at home over Chicago State, 78-46. Jheryl Wilson had 19 points for the Highlanders.

  • Columbia wrapped up the regular season by beating Brown at home, 91-74. Noruwa Agho had 31 points for the Lions. That came on the heels of losing to Yale in double-OT on Friday night, 87-81. Agho had 20 points in that game.

  • Also on Friday, Manhattan lost to Siena in OT in the first round of the MAAC tournament, 68-66. Kidani Brutus had 16 points for the Jaspers, who finished the season at 6-25.
