Iona's Machado makes Wooden Top 25

Iona point guard Scott Machado has been named to the Midseason Top 25 list for the Wooden Award, given each year to the most outstanding player in college basketball.

Machado, a 6-foot-1 senior from Queens, is averaging 13.1 points and 10.3 assists per game for the Gaels, currently the top assist man in the country.

Only six of the 25 players on the midseason list hail from conferences other than the big six (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, Pac-10, SEC).

Iona, 14-4 overall and leading the way in the MAAC at 6-1, next host Rider on Friday night at 10 p.m., a game that will be televised on ESPNU.
