NEC race remains tight at top

The race for the Northeast Conference regular season championship -- and home-court advantage throughout the NEC tournament -- is still too close to call, after LIU-Brooklyn, Wagner and St. Francis (NY) all won Thursday night.

First-place LIU-Brooklyn (20-7, 14-1 NEC) got a big scare at home from Sacred Heart, but prevailed in overtime, 103-91. Jamal Olasewere continued his fine play for the Blackbirds with 27 points and 11 rebounds.

Second-place Wagner (22-4, 13-2 NEC) held off a feisty Monmouth squad to win 74-67 in Staten Island -- here's my story on the Seahawks and senior Tyler Murray, who had a game-high 20 points.

And don't forget about Brooklyn's St. Francis (14-12, 11-4), which remains tied for third with Robert Morris after winning 64-56 at Quinnipiac. Freshman forward Jalen Cannon had 13 points and 19 rebounds for the Terriers.

Each team has three regular season games remaining. Odds are one of these three teams will be representing the Big Apple in the Big Dance next month.
