Anthony Mason Jr. in camp with Heat

Former St. John's player Anthony Mason Jr. -- the son of former New York Knicks star Anthony Mason -- is one of 20 players in training camp with the new-look Miami Heat.

Mason Jr. is competing against LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and company, hoping to be one of the 15 players the Heat decide to keep for the start of the regular season. The Heat must have their roster finalized by Oct. 25.

"This experience has been great. There is nothing like being able to play and learn from some of the best players in the league every day," said Mason Jr. in a statement released by St. John's. "I want to thank Miami for the opportunity to be out here with the team, and my family and friends and all of those who stick with me and support me."

Mason Jr. finished his Red Storm career with 1,059 points, ranking him No. 40 all-time in school history.
