Wagner, the No. 2 seed in the Northeast Conference tournament, was upset by No. 3 seed Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon, 71-64.
The Seahawks were at home, and led by two at halftime, but fell behind early in the second half and couldn't complete a comeback. Velton Jones had 25 points to lead Robert Morris; Latif Rivers had 18 in a losing effort for Wagner.
This will be a bitter pill for the Wagner players and coaches to swallow, but it has still been a wonderful season for the Seahawks, under second-year coach Danny Hurley. They set a new school records for wins in a season, with a record of 25-6.
We'll have to wait and see if Wagner gets invited to the NIT, or another of the smaller postseason tournaments.
