Tight end Jake Ballard and linebacker Mark Herzlich are both going to run on Tuesday as they try to return for the playoffs, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.
Ballard has missed the past two games after spraining his PCL against Washington on Dec. 18. He said on Sunday night, following the Giants' 31-14 win over Dallas, that there is a great possibility that he will play this week but he still has to check out some things. The tight end had 38 catches for 604 yards and four touchdowns in the regular season.
"I'm definitely getting better every day and going to go in there tomorrow and move around and see how it feels and definitely strive to play in this game and practice this week," Ballard said Sunday night.
Herzlich missed the final five games of the regular season after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Saints on Nov. 28. He said his goal was to be able to return to help the team in the playoffs, provided the team made it that far. Herzlich had six tackles this season.
"That's our hope and the hope the whole time," Herzlich said last Friday of being ready for the playoffs.
Defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who made his return Sunday night after missing the previous four games with a sprained ankle, came out of the game well, according to Coughlin. Receiver Hakeem Nicks gave a thumbs up when asked about his hamstring. He suffered a strained hamstring against the Jets on Dec. 24 and played through the injury on Sunday night.
