Injury report: Hosley shooting for next week

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Jason Pierre-Paul was a surprising addition to the injury report when he missed today's practice with back spasms.

Tom Coughlin said JPP will likely sit out for precautionary reasons. S Will Hill was not at practice either, due to a death in the family, but he is expected to play against the Bears.

CB Jayron Hosley will miss the game with turf toe. He remains in a protective boot on his right foot but is hoping he can return to practice next week.

"Trying to work the soreness and stiffness out. It’s been going pretty good," Hosley said. "It is different. It is such a small thing that can cause a lot of problems but got to take it day by day to get it right."

"Hoping early next week. That is what we are shooting for," he added of a potential return. "That is what I am working towards."

The Giants can use Hosley back for their final preseason game. Coughlin wants to see Hosley more as the nickel back against slot receivers.

"Definitely saw some improvement from last week," Hosley said. "My alignment and assignments and technique got better overall. Making that [77-yard interception touchdown return] play kind of made things a little better. Not too many plays [on the field] but I made it count when I got a chance."

Hosley was one of several Giants who sat out practice on Wednesday: LT Will Beatty (back), LB Michael Boley (hamstring), DE Adrian Tracy (hamstring), DT Shaun Rogers (blood clot), CB Brandon Bing (hamstring), CB Terrell Thomas (knee), DT Marvin Austin (back), OT Brandon Mosley (ankle), DT Chris Canty (knee) and TE Travis Beckum (knee) all sat out. CB Michael Coe (hamstring) did return to practice.
