Fewell faces stiff competition for Broncos job; Panthers target Rivera

Perry Fewell's next interview is with the Cleveland Browns, who are scheduled to meet with the Giants defensive coordinator on Tuesday. But it's starting to look like the odds are that Fewell will remain with the Giants.

The Carolina Panthers, who interviewed Fewell last week, appear to have their man. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Panthers are expected to hire Chargers' defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.

Fewell has interviewed with the Panthers and Denver Broncos. He faces stiff competition for the Broncos job as well.

John Elway, Broncos executive VP of football operations, plans on interviewing Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, Jaguars' offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, former Panthers head coach John Fox and Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. He interviewed interim head coach Eric Studesville and Fewell on Sunday.

Fewell has enjoyed his only season with the Giants but he's itching for a shot to become a head coach and likes what he sees in Denver.

The Broncos could bring Fewell back for a second interview. As for the Browns, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted that "the sense around the league is that Rams OC Pat Shurmur is the favorite to land Cleveland's HC job."

The Giants would love to have Fewell back since their defense returned to top-five status in Fewell's first year.
