A Giant workout

So after kind of downplaying the idea of a mass-organized player workout, nearly 40 Giants gathered at Bergen Catholic High School (N.J.) on Tuesday for a practice.

Unfortunately, not one of the 39 Giants stopped to talk to the handful of reporters gathered outside the gate of the high school field so we can’t give you anything more than what we saw. Clearly, the players were told not to conduct any interviews, perhaps to avoid saying anything that would have to do with the lockout. When Eli Manning held his passing drills in Hoboken (N.J.), the few players that attended did talk to reporters.

It would have been great to catch up with defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, who joined his teammates despite the fact that he will be either an unrestricted or restricted free agent. Coming off a herniated disk in his neck, Kiwanuka has been cleared to resume his career. He looked somewhat bigger like he potentially added more muscle and weight to his frame.

The workout was light with no contact. Players split up by position into groups to do some individual drills before going through some offensive plays. Defensive players mostly worked on technique with no contact, light stuff to avoid the potential of injury.

Players that were coming off of surgeries like Rich Seubert and Ramses Barden took it easy and went through a limited workout. At one point, Manning threw a nice deep pass to Hakeem Nicks. We saw veteran linebackers like Michael Boley and Chase Blackburn help a rookie out like sixth-round pick Greg Jones. We’re pretty sure it was Jones (heck, I guess I should know since I watched his entire career at Michigan State) but having never really seen the rookies close up outside of Prince Amukamara and Da'Rel Scott yet, and being as far away as the media was behind the fences, we’re not 100-percent positive that this list is entirely accurate.
