Osi back at practice, on the side

Osi Umenyiora made his first public appearance as a Giant this season when he was on the sideline for the evening practice on Sunday night. The DE, who held out the first day of training camp, spoke to general manager Jerry Reese today and underwent his mandatory physical, but was not in full uniform or practicing.

He rode the bike next to OL Adam Koets and WR Ramses Barden who also were not practicing. Koets was placed on the PUP with patella tendinitis. Back on the active roster, Umenyiora stood for a time chatting with Mathias Kiwanuka, who should be able to practice on Aug. 4 when newly signed free agents are allowed to suit up with their teams.

As for practice itself, Chris Snee was back at center since David Baas is unable to practice (see above). Coughlin reiterated that Snee looked good there when he spoke in the morning. Mitch Petrus was again at right guard.

Making their case: WR Devin Thomas on a kickoff return. WR Dominik Hixon darted quickly, made a few nice catches after ACL tear last season, one on a well-executed cross and another on a deep fade. CBs Bruce Johnson and Corey Webster broke up passes in full drills.

Items of note: G Chris White's jersey is No. 60, which was former center Shaun O'Hara's number. RB Martell Mallett got his left knee wrapped at end of practice.
