The Giants lost two cornerbacks in one game as Brian Witherspoon learned on Tuesday that he has a torn ACL.
Less than 24 hours after losing Terrell Thomas to a torn ACL, the Giants suffered yet another blow to their thin secondary with Witherspoon’s season-ending injury.
“Just wanna say thank you to all who were behind me, and supporting me! My season has come to an end TORN ACL,” Witherspoon tweeted.
Sources confirmed the injury. Witherspoon was scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday.
Head coach Tom Coughlin will talk to the media later on Tuesday afternoon. The Giants are in dire need of cornerbacks. They’ve now lost Thomas, Witherspoon and Bruce Johnson (Achilles) for the year. Also, first-round pick Prince Amukamara remains out with a broken foot and may not return until mid to late September.
The Giants currently have Corey Webster, Aaron Ross and Michael Coe as their remaining top three healthy cornerbacks.
