The Giants certainly can use another cornerback.
So when Asante Samuel was asked whether he could ever see himself jumping to another rival the way Steve Smith did this summer, the cornerback’s answer raised eyebrows.
“The way things are going this year, I guess I probably could,” Samuel said on a conference call with the New York media on Wednesday.
Samuel would later clarify his statement in Philadelphia.
"Let me tell you what that means," Samuel said according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "That means 2011-2012, I am an Eagle. 2012-2013, I don't know what's going to happen... I was on the trade block this year, right?"
When the Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha in free agency, Samuel was the center of trade rumors. However, the Eagles chose to keep Samuel to go with Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who was acquired in the Kevin Kolb trade with the Cardinals.
The Giants are thin in the secondary after losing cornerbacks Terrell Thomas, Brian Witherspoon and Bruce Johnson to season-ending injuries in the preseason.
Of course, even though the Eagles once sent Donovan McNabb to Washington, it is still hard imagining the Eagles trading Samuel to the Giants this season.
