Tom Coughlin wasn't happy about everything the Giants did in the desert on Sunday.

One thing that got on his nerves? His team's run defense.

"We’re going to have to take some extraordinary means to try to solve that issue," Coughlin said.

For the second straight week, the Giants gave up major yards on the ground.

The Cardinals ran for 156 yards on Sunday, including 138 for Beanie Wells. The Eagles totaled 177 on the ground in Week 3.

Coughlin doesn't believe the problem lies with personnel. He says the run defense issues will be corrected through coaching, but declined to elaborate.

"The fact of the matter is that has to stop," Coughlin said. "We talked about that this morning. We talked about it last night. We’ve got to sure this thing up and deny that part of the game."

Linebacker Michael Boley echoed that message.

"We pride ourselves on stopping the run. Obviously, the last two weeks, we haven’t done a good job of that," Boley said. "We have stepped up and made some big plays in other areas but as far as stopping the run, that is something that we have to get corrected. We don’t want to be a defense that is looked at week in and week out as if we got the ball run on us."

MAN-NING UP: Eli Manning threw an interception in Week 1 and another in Week 2 but has gone two straight weeks without a pick. He did have a lost fumble.

But Coughlin made it clear on Monday that he appreciates an interception-free Manning.

"I think his approach has changed in that he’s trying to do the best he can to stay away from being pressured into making those tight, tight throws that unfortunately have ended up going the other way," Coughlin said. "Is he aware on the emphasis that’s been put on taking care of the football? You bet he is."

FINISHING SCHOOL: Giants coaches have emphasized the need to "finish" games all season, and it seems like the message has sunk in.

The Giants trailed by two in the fourth quarter in Philly in Week 3 and rebounded to win the game. They were down 10 in the fourth in Arizona and came back to get the win.

Said Boley: "We didn't do a good job of [finishing] last year so that was a big emphasis for us going into this year.... It is just a matter of 'want to.' I think we have a different mentality to finishing games now. I think at times last year, we got kind of lackadaisical at times. We got away from the things we did earlier in the game as far as keeping the pressure on. This year it is a different mentality as a team. Our whole mentality is to keep the pressure on and don't let up, even during the times late in the game when we are behind like yesterday. It was kind of like don't lose hope because there is always time."
