A weekly examination of the Giants' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 12 | Last Week: 26 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
It's clearly going to be very difficult for the Giants to get back to their preseason ranking with only one game to go. And since they've just kind of been kicking around in this same 23/24/26 range for what seems like forever now, my thought this week was to take a look at the rankings and try to figure out how high they could get. As a voter, I asked myself which of the teams in front of them I could see them leapfrogging if they beat a dead Redskins team at home Sunday in front of tens of thousands of quiet, empty MetLife Stadium seats. I came up with the Bills, Jets, Titans and Lions (whom they just beat) as teams they could conceivably jump if they win and those other teams lose. That would get them to 20. I think that's the most they can hope for. And considering that they started 0-6 and were as low as 30 on this list at one time, that's really not too bad.
Anyway, I had them No. 24 this week, as did Ashley Fox and Kevin Seifert. John Clayton and Jamison Hensley had them at 23. Mike Sando had them at 25. Not much to be argued here, alhough it does bear mentioning that Sunday was clearly their best win of the year, given the location and quality of opponent.
