Playoff implications: Rangers vs. Bruins

Today’s Rangers game has significant playoff implications considering this matchup could be a preview of the first round of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

As of now, the Rangers are just two points behind the sixth points while Boston seems as if it will secure the three seed. If the Rangers are able to get to the sixth seed, this original six matchup would be your matchup for the first seven games.

Last night’s results did not help the Rangers. Carolina and Buffalo both won, pulling the Sabres within two points of the Rangers for seventh place and the Hurricanes within five points. Both teams have a game in hand on the Rangers, so they could potentially move even closer to the Rangers.

Here is today’s slate of games:

Washington (2nd, 96) at Montreal (6th, 87)

Philadelphia (1st, 98) at New York Islanders (13th, 70)

New Jersey (12th, 73) at Buffalo (8th, 83)

Tampa Bay (5th, 89) at Carolina (9th, 80)

Toronto (10th, 78) at Detroit (WC)

Thus, by the end of today, the Rangers could potentially either be tied for sixth place with Montreal or tied for seventh place with Buffalo and just two points of Carolina. The Blue Shirts could also get within two points of Tampa Bay for fifth place as well.

To summarize: The Rangers would be wise to pick up some points today, even just one.
