Sauer, Avery both injured in Monday slop-fest

Michael Sauer, who fell awkwardly into the boards after being hit from behind in the first period of Monday's game, is expected to miss a week with a sprained right shoulder.

Sauer said he still plans to play with the team in Europe.

"That's the plan, for sure." he said after the game.

Certainly the less-noteworthy that happened to Sean Avery Monday night, but the 31-year-old winger suffered a toe injury on his right foot after blocking a shot in the second period.

According to Avery, the MRI came back negative.

Andre Deveaux said he did not like the hit from behind he received from Philly's Tom Sestito during the first period. The play earned Sestito a five-minute boarding major and game misconduct.

"All I'm going to say is it was pretty dangerous," Deveaux said. "I was in a pretty defenseless position. I'm sure they're going to look at it."

John Tortorella made no effort to hide his displeasure with the hits from behind throughout the night.

"Shanny should have a field day," Tortorella said, referring to league disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan, who is responsible for meting out fines and suspensions.

Andre Deveaux and Andreas Thuresson were both sent back to the team's AHL affiliate in Hartford, CT
