Bell assigned, Erixon sticks with Rangers

The Rangers assigned defenseman Brendan Bell to the team's minor-league affiliate in Hartford Sunday, which means that 20-year-old Tim Erixon will stick with the team.

Erixon was recalled from the Connecticut Whale during the team's European tour to round out an injury-addled defensive corps once Marc Staal (headaches) was placed on injured reserve.

The young blue-liner, who is the son of former Ranger Jan Erixon, played a total of 25:32 in the Rangers' first two games in Erixon's native Sweden.

Goaltender Scott Stajcer, who served as the team's emergency backup goaltender, was sent back to his junior club, the Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League.
