Woywitka earns Broadway hat, Wolski out with groin injury

Defenseman Jeff Woywitka, claimed off waivers from Montreal one day before the regular season began, scored his first goal as a New York Ranger in the team's 2-1 shootout win over the Ducks Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

His effort earned him the honor of wearing Broadway hat, the team's sartorial trophy to recognize the game's best player.

"Any time you win the hat, it's awesome," Woywitka said. "I'll be the next guy to pass it out. It's good for me to win this and good to get the two points,"

Woywitka will face the Canadiens, who waived him at the end of training camp last month, Saturday in the team's penultimate game of a six-game homestand.

Coach John Tortorella confirmed that Wojtek Wolski re-injured his groin during the first period of the game. He had no immediate timetable for Wolski, but the winger already missed five games this season with a groin strain.

Defenseman Dan Girardi was nailed above his right eye by the puck in the second period, but returned in the third period and appeared to be okay.
