Blake Comeau, waived by the Islanders Thursday, has been claimed by the Calgary Flames.
The 25-year-old forward is coming off a career-high 24-goal season, but has yet to record a point this season.
Comeau played for current Flames coach Brent Sutter in the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championships when Canada secured its second straight gold medal.
A change of scenery might be exactly what Comeau needs; the former second-round draft pick (2007, 47th overall) has never seemed to be a favorite of Islanders management and was rarely included in what the team heralded as it's young "core."
Despite a 46-point 2010-11 campaign, Comeau was placed on the fourth line to begin training camp this September and was benched three games into the season for two straight games, although Islanders coach Jack Capuano declined to say why.
Comeau was also scratched Monday in the team's 5-0 loss in Pittsburgh. He played 6:45 in the team's 4-3 (OT) loss to Philadelphia and was subsequently waived on Thursday.
