Bill Belichick likes to collect former Jets.
The latest to join him is fourth-year DB Marquice Cole, who signed Monday with the Patriots, the team announced. A year ago, the Patriots had three ex-Jets on their roster -- Danny Woodhead, James Ihedigbo and Shaun Ellis. Currently, Ellis and Ihedigbo are free agents.
Cole was a non-tendered free agent, so the Jets don't receive any compensation. He appeared in 14 games last season, mostly on special teams. He played in only 51 defensive snaps, according to the statistical wen site Pro Football Focus. His signature moment occurred in 2010, when he broke up a Ben Roethlisberger pass in the end zone in the final seconds to preserve a win.
AVERY IN TOWN: Former Titans WR Donnie Avery made his previously reported visit to the Jets on Monday, according to a source.
SHORT-TERM GAIN: Counting their own players, the Jets have signed six free agents. Five of them signed one-year contracts, including the newest addition, S LaRon Landry.
