Day 2 of the NFL draft starts at 7 p.m. and consists of the second and third round. The Jets own two picks:
SECOND ROUND: 15th pick (47th overall)
THIRD ROUND: 14th pick (77th overall)
Preview: The Jets have a history of trading up on Day 2 (see RB Shonn Greene, 2009), so keep that in mind. They re-evaluate their draft board and, if they identify a highly-rated player that has slipped, they will consider a move up to get him. In '09, they were amazed to see Greene, rated as a first rounder on their board, still available at the start of the third round.
If they stay put at 47, the Jets should be able to land a player with the potential to make an immediate contribution. They still have four glaring needs -- OLB, WR, OT and S. In Round 1, they took value over need, selecting DE Quinton Coples. They felt he was too good to pass up even though defensive end wasn't a crying need.
Some of the top players still available:
WIDE RECEIVER: Stephen Hill (Georgia Tech), Rueben Randle (LSU), Alshon Jeffery (South Carolina).
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER: Courtney Upshaw (Alabama), Andre Branch (Clemson), Vinny Curry (Marshall).
OFFENSIVE TACKLE: Cordy Glenn (Georgia), Jonathan Martin (Stanford), Bobby Massie (Ole Miss), Mike Adams (Ohio State).
SAFETY: Brandon Taylor (LSU).
