SEATTLE -- Sunday was a bad day for New York football -- a historically bad day.
The Jets lost to the Seahawks, 28-7, and the Giants fell to the Bengals, 31-13 -- the first time in 29 years that both teams lost by at least 18 points on the same day, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
The last time it happened was Oct. 16, 1983, when the Jets lost by 18 to the Dolphins and the Giants lost by the same margin to the Chiefs.
WOE IS THE O: The Jets' offense continued to challenge marks for futility. They've scored 10 or fewer points in four games, tied with the Jaguars in that category, per ESPN Stats. Next Sunday, they face their former offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, who holds the same title with the Rams.
SEEING RED: Leading into the game, the Jets put an emphasis on eliminating self-inflicted wounds -- i.e. killer mistakes such as interceptions in the red zone. So what happens? Mark Sanchez threw his fourth red-zone interception, which leads the league. Sanchez was 3-for-12 when targeting wide receivers, including 0-for-2 to rookie Stephen Hill.
INJURY REPORT: RB Bilal Powell (concussion) was injured in the second quarter and didn't return. There was no update on his status. The Jets could have a numbers issue at running back, considering backup Joe McKnight (ankle) missed the game. Nickel back Isaiah Trufant (knee) was hurt early and didn't return. There was no update. He was replaced in the slot by Ellis Lankster, who got beat for a TD. QB Tim Tebow suffered an undisclosed back injury. He had a huge ice pack under his shirt. He called it "a little ding."
ODDS AND ENDS: Rough game for TE Dustin Keller, who had two penalties and a dropped pass ... OL Ricky Sapp made his NFL debut and wasn't credited with any tackles ... Bart Scott and Demario Davis shared time at linebacker ... Seahawks rookie pass rusher Bruce Irvin, whom the Jets were interested in drafting, recorded two of his team's four sacks ... It was a good day for the Jets' last two No. 1 picks, Muhammad Wilkerson and Quinton Coples. Wilkerson had seven tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble return for a TD. Coples had a tackle for loss and a QB hit ... Scott (one), DT Mike DeVito (one), Lankster (one), LB David Harris (0.5) and LB Bryan Thomas (0.5) recorded sacks ... The Seahawks dominated the time of possession, 36:11 to 23:49.
