FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Jets head coach Rex Ryan said Monday the team has put together videos of how the players are holding the ball in an effort to try and decrease turnovers. The Jets had five turnovers last Thursday in the 49-19 loss to the Patriots and have a tendency this year to cough up the ball.
"I think our biggest thing we need to do offensively is to protect the football. There's other things we're makings strides but obviously we have to protect the football. You turn it over five times you're not going to beat anybody. That's clearly something we talked about," Ryan said. "We put together videos of how to protect the football. We have clips of every single player we have. How to hold it, what the opponent's seeing, everything. You name it we're trying to find answers to it, solutions to it."
This isn't the first time the Jets have put together video packages. Running backs coach Anthony Lynn has given the teams presentations about ball security. Ryan said usually these packages are put together to study opponents in an effort to find weaknesses, rather than for self-scouting purposes.
The Jets have turned the ball over 22 times this year, tied for fifth-most in the league.
We have it there for our players to see. Is there something they see specifically?" Ryan said. "We have notes. We have all that type of stuff. But we want them to see it with their eyes as well."
PRACTICE UPDATE: Backup QB Tim Tebow (ribs) is expected to have a limited practice on Wednesday as the team prepares to face Arizona.
Defensive tackle Sione Pouha (low back), linebacker Bart Scott (toe), wide receiver Jeremy Kerley (heel/hamstring/illness) and receiver Chaz Schilens (concussion/hip) are all expected to be limited. There's a possibility that Schilens will not practice, though.
NO CLAIM ON BABIN: The Jets did not put in a claim on former Eagles defensive end Jason Babin, who was released by the Eagles Tuesday. While Babin only has 5 1/2 sacks this year, he'd be an upgrade for the Jets as they have just 17 sacks on the year, which ranks 30th in the league.
Ryan spoke of the team wanting to find the answer from within. The Jets could still sign Babin if he clears waivers.
"We got to focus on rushing the passer from the guys that we have. We have to get better at rushing the passer," Ryan said. "Those are things I'm looking for right now, instead of this player, that player, we absolutely notice we have to get to the quarterback better than we have. ... It's a point of emphasis and things but I know we have the ability to rush the passer with this group of players, we just got to get it done."
