Tebow sits, McElroy No. 2 QB

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The worst-kept secret around the Jets became reality Sunday, as backup QB Tim Tebow (fractured ribs) was officially declared inactive for the game against the Cardinals.

Greg McElroy, active for the first time in his career, will be the No. 2 quarterback.

The Jets decided earlier in the week that Tebow, who dressed but didn't play last week against the Patriots, wouldn't suit up for the Cards. It was a tacit admission by Rex Ryan that he erred last week by activating Tebow despite his painful rib injury.

The Jets' other inactives are WR Clyde Gates, CB Aaron Berry, LB Ricky Sapp, DT Damon Harrison, G Caleb Schlauderaff and TE Hayden Smith.

The Cards made some news with their inactives. DE Calais Campbell, TE Todd Heap and WR Andre Roberts were declared out. There had been speculation that all three would be healthy enough to face the Jets.

As expected, QB Kevin Kolb (ribs) is inactive. Rookie Ryan Lindley will make his second straight start.
