This one will hurt.
Former Jets all-purpose star Leon Washington, one of the team's most popular players from 2006 to 2009, signed a one-year contract Thursday with the Patriots. It's a nice signing for the Patriots, who likely will use Washington to replace another ex-Jet, Danny Woodhead, a free agent.
The Jets traded Washington, 30, to the Seahawks during the 2010 draft. They were concerned about signing him to a long-term deal, and there was also concern about his ability to recover from a severely broken leg. Washington did quite nicely for himself in Seattle, ranking every year among the league leaders in kickoff returns. He made the Pro Bowl last season.
Even though there's four years of separation, Washington remains a well-like player in these parts -- another subplot for Jets-Patriots.
Hey, maybe the Jets can re-sign Woodhead. What do you think?
