Ex-Redskins TE Davis set to visit

UPDATE: Free-agent TE Fred Davis cancelled his visit with the Jets, a source confirmed late Thursday night. He's said to be weighing offers from the Redskins and Bills.

Former Redskins TE Fred Davis, who played with Mark Sanchez at USC, told reporters in Buffalo Thursday that he's scheduled to visit Friday with the Jets.

Davis concluded a free-agent trip to the Bills. He has contract offers from the Bills and Redskins, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Jets are looking for a tight end to replace Dustin Keller, who signed with the Dolphins. They still have Jeff Cumberland, a restricted free agent who received the low tender ($1.3 million), but it's clear they're trying to add another veteran.

Davis, 27, is somewhat of a risk because he's less than five months removed from Achilles-tendon surgery. He told reporters in Buffalo that he's "ahead of schedule" and expects to be ready by the season opener. The Jets took a chance last year on S LaRon Landry, another former Redskin with an Achilles-related issue, and that worked out well.

Davis has 155 career catches for 1,973 yards and 12 touchdowns.
