The Snap: Training camp, Day 15

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- No practice Thursday for the Jets. There will be a walk-through, followed by a flight to Detroit for the first preseason game, Friday night against the Lions.

The coaches will finalize their plans for playing time. Obviously, injuries will be a factor. Players not expected to play are RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) and RB Joe McKnight (head). Rex Ryan said WR Braylon Edwards and TE Kellen Winslow -- both of limited reps -- probably will play, but it didn't sound like a sure thing.

Rookie CB Dee Milliner (calf tightness) bears watching. He's already behind, and the last thing they want to do is set him back with a pulled muscle.

The Jets are thin at running back. Bilal Powell has filled in nicely, but the coaches are concerned about overworking him. Look for John Griffin and Chad Spann to see action.

ICYMI: On Wednesday, the Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith were made available to the media. Naturally, the topic of conversation was Ryan's decision to name Sanchez the starter for the game. Sanchez, echoing what OC Marty Mornhinweg said Tuesday, said he "earned" it. ... Free agent G Brandon Moore, a rock on the Jets' offensive line for a decade, announced his retirement after backing out of a contract agreement with the Cowboys. Interestingly, Moore was trending on Twitter throughout the afternoon. ... There was a shot fired from Detroit, as former Jets WR Chaz Schilens took aim at Sanchez and his old team. It should be interesting to see if Sanchez's teammates will have his back in the game, perhaps welcoming Schilens when he goes over the middle.
