CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Jets are back on the field Monday at 10 a.m. for what should be an interesting day. The focus will be on lower extremities -- Geno Smith's ankle and Santonio Holmes' surgically repaired foot.
A gimpy Smith practiced Sunday on a tender right ankle, but how will it respond after a heavy workload? The answer could determine the rookie's practice schedule for the rest of the week and, possibly, the game Saturday night against the Jaguars.
Meanwhile, Holmes, who hasn't talked to reporters since the first week of camp, is scheduled to address the media. With rumors swirling about his anticipated return date, maybe he can shed some light on his timetable -- unless he goes Joe McKnight on us and says he's not going to get into that.
ICYMI: On Sunday, Smith limped his way through practice. He made one bad play (a red-zone interception), but he made several big-time throws. ... Ivory, who has yet to practice, said he expects to play against the Jaguars. ... Rex Ryan defended his in-game actions in the opener, claiming he's aware of what the offense is doing even though ... well, he doesn't watch every play. ... McKnight provided the entertainment for the day, pleading the fifth (sort of) on basic questions about his injury and his recent arrest.
