CORTLAND, N.Y. -- First play of team drills: Handoff to Chris Ivory. Second play: Handoff to Ivory.
Rex Ryan liked.
"He looked excellent," he said of Ivory, who practiced fully for the first time. "I mean, that's a big, powerful man. That's the guy we've been waiting [for]. I think every Jets fan has been looking forward to seeing this guy run, and today we got to see it some. I was encouraged by it to say the least."
The Jets have big plans for Ivory. They sent a fourth-round pick to the Saints to acquire him in a draft-day trade, envisioning him as a Shonn Greene-type runner with more elusiveness. Ivory hurt his hamstring before camp, causing him to miss the first 18 days of camp, including the preseason opener. He returned Sunday on a limited basis, saying he hopes to play this week.
Barring a setback, Ivory is expected to play Saturday night against the Jaguars. It adds a different dimension to the Jets' depleted backfield, which includes Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight. Mike Goodson remains out of camp for undisclosed personal reasons.
