The most overhyped practice-squad promotion in recent history finally became official Friday night, as the New York Jets announced with signing of WR Patrick Turner from their practice squad. Turner will be active Sunday against the Houston Texans, serving as the No. 4 receiver with Jerricho Cotchery (groin) sidelined.
Here's the more intriguing transaction: Former New England Patriots LB Shawn Crable, who worked out for the Jets Friday, was added to the practice squad. Surely it's just a coincidence that the Jets face the Patriots in two weeks, and we all know it wouldn't cross the Jets' minds to pump Crable for 411 on the Patriots. Crable was a third-round pick in 2008 out of Michigan, and played in six games this season for New England.
In other moves, DL Jarron Gilbert, cut Thursday to create a spot on the 53-man roster for Turner, cleared waivers and was added to the practice squad. CB Will Billingsley was released from the practice squad.
