Sheldon Richardson wins rookie award

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Sheldon Richardson was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for November, the league announced Wednesday.

The defensive tackle recorded 23 tackles, including three for loss, in three November games. He also registered a half-sack and seven quarterback hurries. He may have played his best game last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, recording a team-high nine tackles, including three for loss.

Richardson became the Jets first player to win a rookie of the month award since quarterback Mark Sanchez (2009), and the first defensive player since linebacker David Harris (2007).

Roster addition: The Jets signed rookie tight end Chris Pantale from the practice squad.
