In a peculiar move, the New York Jets announced Wednesday evening that WR Patrick Turner has been waived. Turner practiced with the team Wednesday and was spotted in the locker room after practice.
It's unusual for teams to cut players after Tuesday because they've been exposed to the game plan for the upcoming game. Watch, now the Pittsburgh Steelers will claim him. It wouldn't be the first time that sort of thing happened to the Jets. Danny Woodhead, anyone?
The Jets didn't announce a corresponding roster move. It's possible they will try to add a safety, considering the lack of depth at the position. Rex Ryan confirmed that converted CB Dwight Lowery is slated to start Sunday with Brodney Pool. Eric Smith (concussion) is out, and James Ihedigbo (knee, ankle) is very iffy.
S Jim Leonhard (broken leg) is, of course, out for the season, which brings us back to Turner. He collided with Leonhard two weeks ago in practice, causing a severe leg injury for Leonhard. Sadly, that was Turner's biggest impact on the team.
Hey, maybe they will re-sign Laveranues Coles for another final farewell.
